Overview of the translation

.......An Anglican clergyman, Newcome revised Scripture with the critical text of Griesbach, a German Biblical scholar, as the basis of his work. This translation has an Arminian interpretation for the most part, and one critic stated that the text was "undisciplined". His Old Testament translation work included "An Attempt Towards an Improved Version, a Metrical Arrangement, and an Explanation of the Twelve Minor Prophets" in 1785, and "An Attempt Towards an Improved Version, a Metrical Arrangement, and an Explanation of the Prophet Ezekiel" in 1788. His New Testament work was entitled "An Attempt Toward Revising Our English Translation of the Greek Scriptures", and was first printed in 1796, and published after his death in 1800.
